Should Parents help kids with homework?

Today homework has been deemed as an activity that involves both the kids and parents and this has just started to get me worried. Yesterday my kids were all over me, after my hard day at work , requesting that I help them with to get their homework done i.e. assist them in getting answers which are not my problem in the first place. Today with the internet and as much online resources at their disposal, kids should easily access homework help as compared to my days in school when we used to sit in the library searching for answers to our homework questions without the help of our parents. My thoughts are that the teachers too have made it their daily obligation to have parents punished by overwhelming our kids with not so much relevant homework. Why should you give homework to kids on a topic that you have not taught? Shouldn’t homework be meant to enhance the skills already acquired in the classroom? If the answers to these questions are a yes in every school, then parents could not be getting involved in their kids homework! I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks for sharing.
